2002 Trek Report
Greetings from Phil Winfield,
We're back! We have just returned from another Andean Trek. The Andean Blanket is growing and is gaining momentum. There were 45 in our group this year from 5 states. We were blessed to be able to distribute more than 18,000 scripture portions. We had the chance to preach almost every few minutes it seemed. At every crossroads, in the markets, at the schools, in homes, in fields and just anywhere a group gathered, the people stood stone faced still to hear us share the gospel. Many were converted.
Missionary Kevin Tracy broke up a soccer game at a school lot and the coach called all the young men to listen to the message and to receive a Bible. At the end of a gospel presentation all 25 of the men asked Jesus to be their Savior. I and others had similar experiences. The Lord blesses the simple preaching and teaching of his word.
One day in a market in the little city of Caraz, Bonnie began sharing the Evangelcube with a group of children and before she knew it she had a group of men and ladies all interested and listening. After she was done she said she hoped the Lord didn't mind her preaching a little to that group of men and women. I am sure the Lord will not be upset. It is so thrilling to see the Lord motivate people to go on the trips. Next year we anticipate carrying on the Andean Blanket in Peru, Bolivia and Chile. The idea is growing very rapidly. Our mission is very simple; "To carry the gospel where the road doesn't go in the Andean regions of South America". The beautiful part of all of this in addition to the evangelism and adventure in which we participate, is the fact that some are feeling a call to full time ministry on foreign fields. God is calling people to the harvest. There were about 14 of the group that became ill from a combination of altitude, water, exertion and perhaps other things. Please pray them to recover if they have not already. Also pray as we begin to get ready for next year. I would love to see the number of participants and the number of scriptures rise dramatically.
My verse for this year is Ephesians 6:19-20:
"Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."
